Poland outlasted Iran 3-2 (18-25, 23-25, 25-15, 25-20, 15-11) to remain undefeated in the first round of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup at the Hamamatsu Arena on Saturday. Bartosz Kurek top scored for Poland with 19 points, then Mateusz Mika and Michal Kubia, who had a game-changing performance in the fourth and fifth sets, finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Iran’s Amir Ghafour came up with 18 markers to lead all Iranian scorers. Poland coach Stephane Antiga said: "One more hard game and big satisfaction with the win because it was very important. It’s always difficult against Iran. It’s true that for two years we have won more often but we always have to play good and it’s always interesting to play with (Mir Saeid) Marouf because he can change strategy. In the first set, Iran were dominating; they played better than us. We could have won the second set, but it was high-level volleyball. Once again, I want to speak about my substitutes, Drzyzga and Mika; they gave energy to the team and did a great job, and that’s a real team."
