European giants Italy defeated Cuba 3:1 (25:22, 18:25, 25:23, 25:21) to secure the bronze medal of U23 World Championship at Al Nasr Hall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Monday. Italy revenged their group stage defeat to get the bronze medal, while Cuba finished fourth. Gabriele Nelli led the way with impressive 25 points, while centre Elia Bossi scored 14 for the winners. Osmany Uriarte led the losers with 21 points followed by Abrahan Alfonso 12. Italy coach Michele Totire said: "I would like to congratulate Cuba and their young players. For our side, I am very happy for this medal. Our players worked very hard. I thank to my staff, they supported me really well. This medal is very important for Italian volleyball. We showed that we have the ability to win. We came here to win a medal and we did it. I hope our players can play more in their clubs in the future".
