proud, that really is a problem with some of our younger players. It's not good when you become so pleased with yourself and start thinking you've become a star in volleyball. Penchev has got a lot to learn and he has a chance to develop his skills in Piacenza, along with Zhekov and Nikolov. Maybe because of the press and the unhealthy attention from journalists Penchev has believed in himself too much. If he stays on earth, he could become a really good player. That depends on him.

You're right,raylight...unfortunately.And can you imagine how many we don't even know about?A few years ago we wouldn't really be aware of the way our juniors or the below age category were doing. Now we're exposed to more information about them,so hopefully that makes the federation a bit more careful and mindful when it comes to these kids future, but most importantly their health!
I've never been one of the people that thought we'll get nowhere without Plamen(with all my love and respect for him and the 17 years of his life he's given to our NT)and I don't think that we should rely on Penchev that much, this early in his career.I've noticed that this has gotten a little bit to his head and knowing that we'll use him in the future no matter what(if he keeps this level of reception without even improving it one bit,he's still a shoe-in for the men's team)is really not healthy for his self-esteem.And that's important, because whatever the results,I've always been proud of our guys good nature, humbleness and their hard work :)
About the 2006-2008 period -I think it'd be a pity if our best years were under the "leadership" of someone who treated the guys like animals and wrote a "wonderful" book to thank them for making his career. He was so f''king LUCKY to have them...Anyway,I hope our best years are coming shortly( ;) )

We've got not so much as a week before it all starts! I can't wait. Our group is so interesting and the toughest at the same time.

Especially in Japan in 2006, when we played for the bronze. Konstantinov said it after the game with Serbia that we played against the toughest opponents and went through the strongest teams. We deserved more than bronze then.
That's my opinion.

Yeah, you've got a point, raylight, Penchev is gonna miss Euro 2011 because he got injured in Brazil. I read an interview where Stoychev explanes he can't go because of these injuries. They prevented him from taking part in the preparations with the NT.
Personally, I counted on Penchev mainly because of his good reception but we've got to do the job without him.

Konstantinov is unique - such strong receiver at the highest level and so powerful and tall. Too bad Bulgaria didn't get title in the strongest years of the team 2006-2008

Matey should've played more. Konstantinov received very well, I always admired him. Too bad we couldn't watch the entire game, only the first 2 sets.
But thanks to raylight anyway!

Proud, our boys definitely lack physical preparation. They are gentle and thin, not robust and powerful like USA or Russia in that age. And the coaches injure them regularly, Nikolay Penchev didn't get to the NT for this European championship, because he has injuries of the achilles and the knees. The same injuries Zhani Zhelyazkov had. His father is -5 on physical preparation. Not to mention CSKA who sadistically and systematically injured every young player they have including Todorov and Salparov or Lukoil who almost stopped Nikolay Nikolov's career!

thanks for sharing the film, raylight :). the fact that I wasn't very interested in volleyball in those old times makes me quite sad sometimes, now when I think that I lived so many years without volleyball, one of my current addictions. wish I had found it earlier. but I'm happy each time I see an oldie film, it means that I haven't lost it all :P

Comes in with an ace :) Looks so much bigger than our 19 year old players now,though...Is it just his natural build or have we been a little behind on the physical preparation with our juniors?
