Osmany Juantorena (3rd movie)

Osmany Juantorena is an Italian-Cuban volleyball player. He currently plays as wing-spiker for Halkbank Ankara. He is a nephew of Alberto Juantorena, a Cuban former track runner and politician. He debuted in the Cuban first series aged 12, in the Orientales de Santiago. He remained in Cuba for seven years, before moving to Russian side Ural Ufa. In the meantime he also began to play for Cuba's national team, winning the bronze medal in the 2005 World League.
In the late 2006 Juantorena was disqualified for two years after testing positive for Testosterone during the Central American and Caribbean Games. His return was delayed by the Cuban Volleyball Federation due to his decision to move to play to Italy. He remained in Trento until he could return to play in 2009. Playing for Trentino Volley, he won the FIVB Club World Championship, the Italian Cup and a European Champions League (he also obtained the title of MVP in the competition) in 2010.

i dont know what is the problem of handan i read the article for volleyball.it and i understand a litle that juantorena serve a ace and they are win 24-17 so i think the libero was waiting a slow ball because they are lose for many advantage so juantorena serve a "sky ball"( powerfoul serve) and they don like that attitude or whatever juantorena will be cuban no matter what he can be tall but with interior strenght like all cuban player and he dont will change that fact

So disappointed. I think he clearly changed after the final against Z. Kazan. I hope he will put it together again and we will see the humble Osmany :)

NTs and clubs volleyball are staying connected with each other of course, but the first one "create" this sport, I agree with pesazi. And for me there is nothing more important and more exciting that NTs competitions. I more appreciate success in NT volleyball than in club volleyball.

Well I like both clubs and NT; but they are two different things! Imho, people usually prefer NT than clubs only because NT do represent a whole country whereas clubs represent only small groups of people (cities or villages). I give you my own personal situation as an example: I like clubs like Trento and I can support Roma or Macerata, but I'm not from Trento, Rome or Macerata. I'm Italian, so I would lie if I said that when my NT wins I'm happy the same way that when Trento wins. Can you understand? It's a sense of belonging...you know. Everybody can identify in his/her NT...that doesn't happen with clubs! Or at least for me it's like this :)

today i disagree whit you, normally the players work 320 days/year in a club and and only 30 days whit NT and for me they play better in the club. and i prefer club because i have the possibility to know better the player, for example every thursday trentino players got a dinner whit fans

Osmany is example of a sportist with a heart. He didn't lose hope even after the scandal and his ban for playing and he returned as a machine.

BTW, I finally made Trentino - Cuneo Cup 2010 Highlights. I had a lot of problems with the video files which had defects, and with youtube which aggresively stopped my sound and I did what I could under these rough cirumstances. Enjoy (when they get approved) :D

pesazi@ Yes, but the clubs don't bare national mentality problems as well and the players in one year train and play more matches than for 2 or may be 3 years in NT. In volleyball NT is closer to clubs level, because there are more competitions and matches in the year, not like football, but still I think club level is generally higher, with Brazil the only exception past 2000 year (USSR pre 1990 and Netherlands in 90s can be other cases of NT strong as strongest clubs, someone who watched them live like Henrique can say if it was like that) @hamid, thank you :)

@hamid... osmany had a good reception.. last year he was the 15th receptor in our league, better then bari, mania and giovi (italy's liberos), better then henno or vujevic

@raylight: In theory, the top clubs should be better than NT's, because they have a bigger playerspool to choose from. But in reality no club can afford something like a dreamteam. The other problem is that in club volleyball, players always come and go. That means, that players don't identify too much with their clubs, and it's hard to reach the same level of understanding on the court as in NT. Thats why great NT are always better than great clubs.

For me Italian League >> NT competitions, like in football Primera Division or Premier League. It is strange how in volleyball NT are considered stronger

But it would have more recognition, there are people don't see European leagues and only known to the national team players

If Osmany could play for the NT of Cuba, would be probably the best player in the world.

His reception is better than Matey's generally, Hamid, they receive worse in Trentino, because most of the time they don't focus much on that during game and they play with Molten, which lowers a bit the numbers in reception. In finals,Trentino usually has good reception thanks to both Osmany and Matey. They are not Konstantinov, Murilo, or Tetyukhin, but they are so powerful that they can finish their bad receptions so most of the time problem is solved, especially with Dore De la Lunga waiting on the bench to come in any time when necessary to cover them - usually Matey, but Osmany too has weaker moments

Great player and dynamic video, but I expected to see more aces, because imo the serve is his main skill, so it has to be really emphatized ;)

It is strange to see that he always goes diagonal. Rarely a parallel hit. I think it is the reason this year he got blocked way more than last year

Really nice video, very dynamic like the player;) Juantorena is the right man for Trentino, its hard to imagene a stronger lineup than Kaziyski or Juantorena in frontline and one of them serving ;)
