Long rally (Iran - Russia)

Russia finished solidly to take the fifth place, after defeating Iran 3:0 (25:19, 25:21, 25:18) in the World Championship 2014. Iran coach Slobodan Kovac, who led Iran to its highest position in their World Championship history, started the match with all his stars, apart from opposite hitter Amir Ghafour. Their captain, Mir Saeid Marouflakrani, saw action in the match and proved to be fit to play after a sore throat. Russia coach Andrey Voronkov also played with almost all his aces, with Artem Volvich replacing Nikolay Apalikov. It is a small comfort for Andrey Voronkov squad which therefore managed to repeat the result from four years ago, when Russia was 5th in the World too. However, this is the third consecutive World Championship in which "Sborna" stayed without a medal. On the other side, Iran has finished this tournament with a defeat, but 6th place at the World Championship is the best ever in the history of Iranian volleyball.
