Ivan was born on 2 October 1988 in Spoleto in Italy, where his father played for several years. At first Ivan was setter, just like his father was. "My father practically never was satisfied with my playing. He was pointing out my mistakes many times, but after match in Belgorod he congratulated me the successful debut." Ivan received Italian citizenship in May 12, 2008. On May 9, 2014 his departure from Lube was announced. He is now a player of Russian club Dynamo Moscow. Ivan Zaytsev said: "I will play for Dinamo Moscow next season. It will be an interesting adventure. I’m glad that I can often see my parents because they live in St. Petersburg".
