Movie presents actions from match between Italy and Cuba. Interesting "old" actions starting at 0:35. That was semi-final match of World Champs 1978! The hosts won against Cuba in four sets: 15:17, 15:11, 16:14, 15:12. It was a fantastic achievement by Carmelo Pittera's team. Look at great climate on the hall (18000 fans). The tournament was held in Rome, Italy from September 20 to October 1. Italy played in the final of World Championships for the first time in the history. They lost game in three sets against USSR. The final match in the related movies. Look how volleyball improved from that time. Volleyball has witnessed unprecedented growth over the last decade. With the great success of world competitions such as the World Championships, the World League, the World Grand Prix, the World Cup, and the Grand Champions Cup as well as the Olympic Games, the level of participation at all levels internationally continues to grow exponentially.

@shinoda: Claudio Di Coste, spiker, 2.07 cm. The setter (n.5) is Francesco "Pupo" Dall'Olio who played in Serie A until he was 43 years old. That Italian Squad of 1978 is known as "il Gabbiano d'argento" (the Silver Seagull).

@pearl: Damn it! I thought nobody here knew him. :-p He also played at 1980 Moscow Olympics. He was really a giant back then, when most hitters were around 1,90m. The 1978 worlds... That's when Italy started to make history in vball. :-) @MaskYs: Yup, the net had the same height: 2,43m for men and 2,24m for girls.
