Vladimir Nikolov out of World League
The 34-year old said on the Bulgaria Volleyball Federation website that due to many years of playing with an inflamed shoulder it is necessary for him to seek medical help and as a result, he will miss the FIVB’s premier annual tournament but be back in time for the European Championships later this year.
“Last year I had a problem with the shoulder on the basis that for many years playing with inflammation,” Vladimir said. “A ligament is thicker and has calcium deposits and consequently must be "clean" with medical intervention. I want to specify that intervention is not surgery but arthroscopy. This method finds two or three points in the shoulder and is very friendly. It is also extremely important that the recovery is much more - a short time.”
Bulgaria finished seventh in last year’s FIVB Volleyball World League, narrowly missing out on a spot in the final round following victories over eventual champions Brazil.
This year the side are in Pool B alongside Russia, Japan and Germany and will fancy their chances at making the final round this time as a total of eight teams will qualify for the first time since 2003.
“In any event, we have a team that can fight with all world powers,” Vladimir commented on his side’s chances in this year’s tournament. “So definitely I think their chances are good and we just need to realize them to qualify for the finals, which for some time has escaped us.”
The 2011 FIVB Volleyball World League intercontinental round takes place from May 27-July 1 with the final round from July 6-10 in Gdansk-Sopot, Poland.
